Born in Hokkaido (northern Japan), Hiromu Arakawa first attracted national attention in 1999 with her award-winning manga Stray Dog. Her series Fullmetal Alchemist debuted in 2001 in Square Enix's monthly manga anthology Shonen Gangan.

I watched FMA back in 2007 when the series passed on tv, at that time I've to admit: "I don't figure out much of history, but I can't stop to see it". FMA is a history that link in you, once you read the history you being to see the life in a diferent way. I decided to buy the manga because after years and years watching the two series and searching for the background history -- what the mangaka use to write the history, how many histories is behind FMA, it context --, now is time to read. Despite I'm a brazilian, the manga version is comercialized in my contry have 54 volumes and is more expensive so I decided to buy the english version. I highly recommend the series, and I doing this review because the box set, in this moment, is right by my side and is awesome this. Anyway, FMA is the best manga history that I ever read -- I know there's many other histories more famous, but that is the history that changed me --, the history changed me back in 2007 and still changing me every time that I stop and take a time to think in life and what I want from my own. (obs: "Brazilian folks that want to buy, don't worry to much about the taxes, our contry do not tax this kind of product as far as I know")

Great story, charismatic characters, catching development, beatiful art, and a nice ending (which I am not giving spoilers of). A must buy. I have the national version ( I am from Brazil), and I pretend to buy this one, that is much better in terms of paper quality.

The overall story is about 2 brothers who tried to ressurect their mother using alchemy, but doing so caused the protagonist (Edward) to lose his arm and leg,his brother (Alphonse) to lose his entire body and have his soul affixed to some armour and they are trying to find the philosphers stone, a mythical item that enhances alchemical powers so that they can try to get their bodies and limbs back.
One of my all time favourite series, the plot is full of plenty of memorable characters and unexpected plot twists.
A definate must buy for any manga fan or anybody who is new to buying manga
