Aaaargh!

Being a curious Alice, I thought I would read these books to see what all the hype was about - I wish I hadn't. I could barely get through the first book. Raunchy? I was sickened. I didn't realise how obviously prudish I am after hearing other people raving about these books. Valid, they were not designed to be great works of literature either but honestly a five year old could have strung something together more readable than these books. I felt that there was little to no plot, the subject matter was ordinary: scary in fact for me. I just couldn't continue reading knowing how denigrating to women the theme of the novels were. If S & M was my thing, I would no doubt feel differently: just not my cup of tea, sorry. Give me a bit of old fashioned romance, something I can enjoy reading with lots of suspense, a smattering of raunch, without all the nasty bits, and I probably would have felt differently. Maybe I should take to reading Mills & Boon, but then again maybe not.show more

trying to love it

Thank goodness i got the box set.. If i had purchased the first book only i dont think i would have bothered with the others. but i found the second and thrid books to realy pick up, the story line formed and became more interesting, i enjoyed the third book the most. Over all i think E.L. James did a wonderfull love story. alot of passion and kinky business but a real fantasy love story to her. all credit to her. id be happy to purchase more of her work.show more

Interesting

I found the sexual exploration between these 2 interesting. The choices of what you enjoy, what you are willing to do for your partner, and for yourself were shown. How much of yourself are you willing to give up or change to be with someone else. There are 2 people in a relationship. They don't fit together perfectly, it's about finding the balance so you both can be happy together. His parents and main security guy are a delight. Despite the fact that I was a little upset at the end of the first book, I was interested enough that I had to read the second and third just to see what gapped. It kept me interested and engaged. Even when I was annoyed with a character, or didn't understand where they were coming from, I wanted to continue reading. To see how they all ended up.show more

FIFTY SHADES OF FABULOUS AND FUNNY!

Thank you E L James for writing what I found was a very easy read and very entertaining. I finished all three books in a week. Yes it is total fantasy, but what could be wrong with a georgous billionaire wanting to have his way with you everytime he looks at you and has people doing your cooking and cleaning? Definately a no brainer for me. I love the way the main character Ana is constantly overthinking every sentence that comes out of Christian's mouth, so typically female! It is the highest selling paperback of all time and deservedly so. Lose yourselves people and enjoy!show more

Only for the Sex

Sometimes you feel you have to read a book because of the buzz. That's what happened to me. It's no shock that this book is not a work of literature or even a good read, and the "plot" if you can call it that, is weaker than weak. If you're going to buy this book, it's to read the sex scenes, which are extremely raunchy. The in between bits exist to vaguely thread them together so nothing really happens. In error I bought the second before the first, and now that I've read the first and the second awaits, I am not sure I'll bother.show more
