As a keen vegetarian and environmentalist I though i was well read on the issues raised in this book - most significantly, the horrific cruelty surrounding all aspects at the meat, egg and dairy industry, as well as the mind-boggling effects the practice of raising, growing and consuming animal products has on our environment. However, Foer delves further than one may have thought possible, accounting first hand experience while provoking one's conscious, yet without bias and heavy guilt trips.
It encouraged me to make more of a conscious effort to remain informed of the origins of my food, and even for non-vegetarians it is an undoubtedly interesting, thought provoking read, encouraging us perhaps not to forgo animal products (though, he outlines the countless reasons why this may be for the better), but to be more aware of our food choices and the effects these can make as mere individuals.
Not simple a doom sayer about factory farming or a militant vegan campaign, this book is eye-opening and causes you to think about the issues it raises long after you have closed the covers.

This book sheds a LOT of light onto the world of factory farming. Safran Foer has an engaging writing style that makes reading this frightening book an easy task. I thoroughly enjoyed this and am recommending it to all that I know.
