Reviews for Divergent

Write a review
  • Review from Read Into Hiding blog5

Ioana Culcea I am helplessly and utterly in love with this book. Divergent is one of those books that's like "Oh, you wanna go outside and play? Here's a twist. Here's some action. Forget about outside". Beatrice is struggling to find the good choice, the good faction for her, but is there such thing? Every faction has its ups and downs.

I liked the fact that I could easily remember the characters. I have quite a problem with character remembering, especially when tons of them are thrown in my face - which is a reason I never finished Hamlet -but with Divergent is easy to recall even those who were only mentioned once.

You stumble upon the best male character you can ever read. How do I begin to describe Four? I love him with the power of a thousand suns. He's the kind of boyfriend that brings the best of you, makes you stronger, because when you're down, he doesn't look at you with pity, what would pity solve? He's the kind of man that's intelligent, not thirsty for power and despite his age, his maturity is off the charts. And he has muscles.

It's such an easy read, since intrigues over intrigues keep showing up and leave you wanting more. The world Veronica Roth described with such passion has definitely left a mark on me, because you're there with the character, you're there seeing through her eyes and despite the drawbacks, it's a beautiful world.

I simply cannot WAIT to read Insurgent!!

I recommend this book, it's a must read, really.. There's nothing not to like. Action, twists, romance and a well written story... what more do you want? by Ioana Culcea

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!5

Sengul Korkmaz I absolutely love this book! I read many reviews raving about how great this book was, so I decided to read it myself. If you like The Hunger Games trilogy you will absolutely love this book!! I am currently on the second book: Insurgent! by Sengul Korkmaz

  • LOVEEEEEEEED THIS BOOK!!!5

Gemma Saw I had just finished reading the hunger games and was hungry for another dystopian novel to read i searched the net and came across divergent and let me just say that the hype from this book was well worth it!!

It has similarities to the hunger games but Divergent is a level of its self i loveeeed this book so much i read it in 1 day i just couldn't do anything but read it!

Veronica makes a connection with all the characters to make us feel for them and worry what will happen to them.

And let me just say OMG Four! Where can i get one!?

Im not gonna give away too much but this book is 100% worth the read you will not be disappointed!! by Gemma Saw

  • An addicting read4

Jessica B I've been putting off reading Divergent for a while now because it seemed too similar to the Hunger Games. They do have some things in common like a girl fighting a dystopian government, but the worlds are so different that they didn't feel similar at all. Divergent felt similar to the Matrix more than anything. The writing style wasn't my favorite. Veronica says "I" a lot and it was hard for me to visualize some of the scenes.

I really enjoyed the factions. The world is divided into these mini-societies that cultivate different virtues kind of like Hogwarts, but with a dystopian flare. It was very interesting and it made me think a lot about the fine line between a virtue becoming a vice if you're not careful. Tris is an enjoyable main character. She doesn't always make the right choices which makes her interesting and relatable. Divergent was an addicting read and I flew right through it. by Jessica B

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!5

Rose When I first read the description of this book, I wasn't sure what I was getting into. I started reading Divergent on a Saturday evening, and finished it a week later. My mind has been blown away by this futuristic world that Veronica Roth has created for us Readers. I instantly fell in love with the 2 main characters Tris and Four. As well as the lifestyle of the Dauntless Faction (At first). It's definitely something I could never do and I found it absolutely fascinating.

There was a lot of fast paced movement in Divergent that had my heart racing along with Tris. I found myself holding my breath every now and then or laughing out loud. This book was so amazing, I never wanted it to end! by Rose

  • Don't wait any longer and read it!5

Alaiel Kreuz Beatrice knows that soon she will have to face the most important part of her life: she will have to choose a faction. The aptitude test will tell her which one suits her better but, at the end, she will take the final decision... Is she ready to do it?

Her options are Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful) and Erudite (the intelligent).
Right now her whole family is in Abnegation and they assume she'll stay there, with them. Who wouldn't?! She has being raised to think first about other people, to be patient and to never want anything besides the necessary. The only problem is she is not happy.

And when her aptitude test reveals her a secret that could put her life in the line Beatrice will realize her future is in her hands.

In that moment Beatrice will become Tris and a new chapter of her life will begin. Now the only problem is: who is friend and who is foe?

    Personal opinion:
Since Insurgent, the second book of the Divergent series, is coming out very soon I thought that writing a review about this amazing book might give a little push to the ones that haven't read it Divergent. So, shall we begin?

Reasons why you will love Divergent:
    - Tris is an amazing kick-ass heroine. Yep, no doubt about that. Through the whole book we'll see her evolve non-stop but, above all, she won't disappoint you. When things start to get complicated and dangerous she will face everything with a strength that will be the envy of most people around her.
    - The whole concept of Divergent is refreshing and unique. This is a very different dystopyan book, people, trust me here. The idea of dividing the population taking in consideration their abilities and virtues is so cool that you will want to take an aptitude test yourself. (Which right now you can do HERE!)
    - Don't drink coffee or energy drinks while reading this book unless you are about to fall asleep in the middle of an "O-M-G" scene... which will happen very often. Your heartbeat will increase, you will be sweating a lot and your lungs will need oxygen so remember to keep breathing. This is a very important thing so don't forget it!
    - Although this book is full of action and drama there's also space for love and those scenes are very special. Four will make you smile every time. And Tris will make you laugh. The perfect combination, right?! :]
    - When you reach the ending you will be happy to know that the next book is coming out very soon... lucky you!

Reasons why you will hate Divergent:
    - Honestly? I can't think of any. Sorry.

So, if you haven't read this book yet I encourage you to press those buttons below the cheeses and check the prices of the book. And then you can go to your local bookstore or library and grab it ;) by Alaiel Kreuz

  • Amazing!5

Priontie Let me start of with just saying that Divergent is AMAZING! It is jam-packed with action with a sprinkle of romance and is a page turner. I finished this book in one sitting! I would absolutely recommend reading this book, its well worth you time and it will keep you engrossed all the way to the end of the book. I don't recall their ever being a dull moment in the book, the main character Beatrice is such a proactive character that you can't help but like her. This is a wonderful read! by Priontie

  • Oh My Books! Review5

Maria Guajardo (GABY) I've read so many great reviews about this book. I was really interested and I'm happy I finally read it!

In a dystopian future Chicago, Beatrice Prior is sixteen years old and the time has come for her to choose her faction. Her family is from Abnegation, but she doesn't feel like it's her right place. But leaving her faction means she can't see her family anymore.

When she finally decides which faction is for her, nobody thinks she is capable. Breatice, now Tris, has to prove everyone that she's strong and capable of anything...all while keeping her biggest secret, a very dangerous secret.

Beatrice starts being a shy and sad girl, but deciding to change her life make her become Tris, strong and brave. Tris is still very scared, specially of human contact. When she met Four, an interesting boy who might know her secret, she starts to realize that it isn't so bad to want something for herself.

The world Veronica Roth wrote was interesting, and her writing made me read the whole book in only two days! The factions, Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent), are very strict, and the people is obliged to act as their faction describe.

The factions were invented to maintain the peace between men. But their world it's really as peaceful as they say? And what about people who doesn't want to be in a faction? What is you are brave and intelligent and honest?

I really don't want to spoil the book. It's important that you discover for yourself what is really happening with the factions. But Divergent is an excellent dystopian book for YA. It has action, adventures and great characters. I liked Tris transformation, and I really want to know what is going to happen in the sequel, Insurgent. by Maria Guajardo (GABY)

    Divergent by Veronica Roth.5

Jessica Wilmshurst With such an amazing debut; it will definitely be of interest to me whether the sequel will live up to its standards or fail hopelessly. With that said I was completely caught up in 'Divergent' so much so that I really didn't want to finish it with the knowledge that I will have to wait months for another instalment. However once I had finished 'Divergent' I couldn't stop thinking about it, it was as though I was reading it again because everything was playing out before my eyes without even needing to revisit the text. Honestly if I had to sum up 'Divergent' in two words, it would have to be 'Epically Awesome'. If you don't have a copy, get one today!!! by Jessica Wilmshurst

  • One Choice Can Change Everything5

geekgirl @ geekgirl's book blog This book came out nearly a month ago. If you haven't read it by now...well...why the heck not?

Like many people, I was a little hesitant to pick this one up. Not because it was getting bad reviews, but because of the opposite. It was getting AMAZING reviews, and sometimes when that happens, I get my hopes all up, and then I read it only to find that the book just really isn't for me at all.

If this senario sounds familiar to you, take heart. Muster up your courage. Be brave.

    Read this book.

For the love of all that is good, READ THIS BOOK. (I cannot stress this enough).

Take my hand. Let me show you the way. You will not regret it.

Veronica Roth (who is only like 23, and I am super-jealous of her writing ability...I want to capture her brain in a jar and make it tell me all its literary secrets...that's not creepy, is it?) has crafted an incredible dystopian landscape of a post-war society. The society has split off into five factions, each one holding one ideal (selflessness, bravery, honesty and so on) above the rest, and essentially shunning the others.

But when you turn sixteen years old, you are given a choice. Well, first you are given a test. The purpose of the test is to tell you which faction you are most suited to as a person. And while, in the end, the choice is entirely up to you as to which trait you devote your life to, there is a catch...you can't belong to more than one.

When Beatrice's results come back that she is a Divergent (a person torn between two or more factions), she is told to keep it a secret and move on with her life as quietly as she can, or else face exile.

Divergent is the story of the choice Beatrice makes, and how the results of a single choice in your life can change everything.

The characters in Divergent are amazing and beautifully complex.

There is action and adventure, heartbreak and romance, family and the pressures of society.

You have to read this book.

    geekgirl demands it.

That is all. by geekgirl @ geekgirl's book blog
