This is a story of a boy born in the Lancashire mill town of Farnworth nr Bolton in 1951. One of nine children he was born into a world of violence and extreme poverty along with his two brothers and six sisters. His world as a child along with his siblings was to know nothing else but being constantly beaten and kept a prisoner in the house and never being allowed out to play. Having eventually grown up and left home he ran with the skinhead gangs and into a world of alcohol and drug abuse, written of by the medical profession with the words that he would either be dead are commit suicide before he reached the age of fifty. However his life was about to change in a dramatic way and eventually lead him seven thousand miles away to Chile South America as he took part in one of the worlds most extreme desert marathons The Atacama Desert. This story is true that boy was me.

Truly an inspirational book and once you start to read it you don't want to put it down. Heartbreaking to read for those of us who have happy childhood memories. Its hard to imagine what Billy and his siblings went through, and Billy's mum. Billy's written it in his own words, just what life was like for them and how when he was older he found his escape in drink and drugs to blot out the painful memories. ... but then he found great enjoyment in running and went on to complete the harrowing Atacama desert run. Proof that anyone... no matter what has gone on in their life..... can achieve anything he wants to. Look forward to Billy's next book. Certainly a must read !!!

I think this is a wonderful book on Billy's life and gives others the feeling of how it is to be in someone elses shoes. A great book to make one think and appreciate his sense of humor is brilliant in describing things most of us can only imagine. Good luck on future endevours Billy I would give this book a Must read.
