Cadeon has promised his brother Rydstrom to get him his crown back no matter what it takes, ridden with guilt for causing him to lose it. Finally a sword is made that can kill the sorcerer who usurped Rydstrom - the price The Vessel a woman of the Lore who will birth an ultimate warrior for either good or bad, depending on the father.
It all goes down the hill when Cadeon notices that The Vessel is the human woman who he knows to be his Mate, the one he cannot touch, but as Holly's Valkyrie genes kick in when she's kidnapped, there is suddenly a chance that Cadeon could have her. Cadeon convinces her to come with him to keep her safe from people wanting The Vessel either killed or bred, and to get her Valkyrie genes revoked by Groot the Metallurgist, the maker of the sword.
The thing is Holly doesn't want the crude, cursing, eternal bachelor Cadeon, she wants her platonic boyfriend, her math, her codes and her ODD habits. Finally she begins to give in, but then with her trust in his hands can he still exchange her for the sword and saves his brother's kingdom, or have her for himself?
I love Immortals After Dark novels, they are never boring! The Valkyries are the funniest group of frat boys/girls in the history of Paranormal Romance, the Lykae sexy as hell massive werewolves, The Vampires both evil and wonderfully sexy and the Demons rugged and medieval and one cannot help but love visit them all book after book. There is so much going on in Dark Desire After Dusk the plot that one never tires of reading these - this one is fine example, there are enough plot twist that you can't help reading on and on until you are finished. It's bloody entertaining!
I loved Cadeon, he curses, is bit of a slob, he's crude and it makes him such a contrast to Holly it's delicious. And he's definitely the most vocal of the IAD heroes in bed. I'm usually not very into accents in a books, cause they can go overboard, but I liked Cadeon's accent in this book, fit his cocky attitude perfectly!
Holly was a bundle of nerves, logical to fault and she lied to herself constantly but still even with her ODD of having things free and being a germaphobe she was surprisingly likable, but also extremely butt headed and strong - which was a fabulous mix and I truly enjoyed her especially towards the end where she begins to accept her Valkyries roots.
Dark Desires After Dusk is a great paranormal, sexy and tormented road trip across America and many check points to find the Metallurgist. DDAD was so much fun read, the characters well developed to grab the reader's attention and the keep it, the contradiction were what made this book so entertaining as well as the love beginning to blossom between them and the very yummy jealousy Cadeon hadn't been familiar feeling. This book is for the fans of adventure, sexy paranormal romance and those of us who like their heroes bit rough around the edges. ;)
There isn't much negatives one can say about this series, I suppose if I had to think of one it would be that with the twisting plot I love can be little hectic and confusing at times, not enough to bother the story as you read, but it's gotten much more complex since book one ( both pro and con ), and in retrospect I can see the hecticness. Still it only takes away one star so it's not something that would ever stop me from reading these books!

Cadeon Woede is a millennium old demon mercenary that will stop at nothing to atone to his careless act that cost his brother his crown and kingdom Rothkalina to be usurped by Omort. After years of failure, he comes upon one last resort to redemption; a magical sword from Groot, Omorts brother but to obtain the sword he needs to deliver the vessel to him. The vessel is a female from the Lore that will meet sexual maturity every Accession and her child will be a warrior of good or evil.
Holy Ashwin, brought up by humans is a math genius who is just a boring geek until she is forced into the lore as the vessel both the good and bad sides of the factions are after for different reasons. She is saved from vampire attacks by Cadeon after having killing the dozen of demons who had abducted her in a rush of ferocity and killing instinct after being struck by a lightening. To Cadeons disbelief, the vessel is none other than the Holly that he believes to be his fated mate. She had been forbidden to him because she was human but with the reality altered another obstacle in his way; he has to deliver her to Omort to be bred with. He tricks her by promising the reversal of her transformation, the thing she wants most right now. His task gets more crucial when his brother gets trapped by Sabine, Omorts sister.
Within one night Holy is transformed into something else, slew demons, got shot at by vampires, had a mad car chase through the swamp, found out who and what her birth parents were and learned of a secret world. And she has to depend on the dangerous foul-mouthed and lustful demon Cadeon to get her life back to normal. With the discovery that the vessel is her niece, Nix plays along with Cades plans and ensures that they get to spend as much time together eventhough she knows that he intends to hand her over to Groot. Adding to that, she stuck without her medicines when she needs it most; Nix had purposely removed the medicines that she takes to stifle her Valkyrie nature. Cadeon is distressed when he realizes that his half hope of keeping Holy and getting the sword might be impossible. As their journey progresses, Cadeon trains her in all defenses.
Holly realizes that the demon has a positive side; one that's thoughtful and caring and he rouse her in unimaginable ways. In a battle of jealousy, she is shocked when he confesses that she is his fated female which meant that he protected her not merely because of his job. At their second checkpoint, they encounter ghosts; got shot by the feys, attacked by fire demons and Holly saves the day this time. Another possible way to out Omort pops up, giving Cadeon hope and as immortality grows on Holly so does Cadeon. Tims betrayal clears Hollys head as she reevaluates her feeling for Cadeon and eventually wants him to claim her but Cade fears that he's travelled too far deceiving her.
Holly wants Cade and the immortality minus the dangers of being the vessel... Having claimed Holly and failing his plan B, Cadeon has forced to move to plan C; a dangerous plan that can cause him lots but he will not repeat with Holly the same mistake he did years ago. Things get much worse when this plan also meets an obstacle and he has to decide whether to run away with Holly or try and trick Groot. Just when Holly has completely fallen for her demon, he betrays her to the gut. Everything was to get her, the vessel to Groot to be impregnated. Cadeon had a plan but he underestimated Groot....
Cole spellbinds yet again with one of her best in the series with an exciting plotline to keep us glued. Hollys innocence, confidence and quirky habits and Cades crude talking, savage but considerate personality really got the chemistry burning between them. Their characters were well developed with just one drawback in my opinion; Cade seemed somewhat inept at the climax though I enjoyed Hollys growth to the Valkyrie that she is. This is definitely an entertaining, fun, adventurous and steamy read. One thing I had to point that the front cover was nothing like how Cade was described that that was very disturbing.
