  • Absolutely terrible on every level! Weak characters, flimsy storyline, writing confusing at times & nowhere near enough erotica!1

Misque Well I think my review title just about sums it up. This was my first Lora Leigh book and I started with this one as it is the first in this particular series. On first glance the description sounded interesting and although I'd read a few mixed reviews on the book I thought I would take a chance on it as it was so cheap at the time. However, the book was a real chore to read as it turned out and I must admit and I couldn't wait to finish it so that I could move onto a book with a more interesting and believable storyline with characters who have some depth, believablity and some chemistry between them.

I really don't know what else to say about this one. I regularly found myself getting confused with a lot of it and quite often the sentences were written pretty awkwardly so it was hard to follow. I had to re-read sentences so many times to get what was happening in the plot and at times it seemed very rushed. Towards the end of the book I noticed there were a hell of a lot of mistakes with the wrong names being used for some of the characters. To be honest I thought I had noticed it a few times earlier in the book but it wasn't as apparent as near the end so I thought it must just be me going mad, but it seems not.

The supposed relationship/draw between the characters is so unbelievable. One minute he can't or won't be with her for some daft reason(s) and the next all is forgotten just like that. And that seems to go both ways with the characters. It's like sometimes the author was just writing dialogue between the two characters for the sake of it and it didn't add anything it just made me think even more that it was a bit lame. Loads of daft little things like that made the plot and the characters so annoying and contra-dictory! I usually find it quite easy to fall in love with the characters and into the romance of it but I just could not do it with this and the storyline was overly compex like the author was trying to be too clever and it just didn't work out right. The book has a BDSM theme which is quite mild in my view (and that was fine by me). However, I wouldn't say this is one of those books where the chemistry and erotica is sizzling off the pages. As said in the title there was nowhere near enough erotica and what little there was was very tame.

If you want my advice, you should steer clear of this one. I'm glad I got it so cheaply so I could see what all the fuss is about with this author as on the whole she does seem to get good reviews and have a lot of fans. But after reading this I won't be buying another of her books - certainly not from this series anyway. by Misque
