Editorial reviews

In 1986, Clifford Stoll was running a large computer at Berkeley in California. A simple assignment to investigate a discrepancy of 75 cents in the computer's accounts led him on to an obsessive hunt for a hacker who was breaking into his system. The hunt eventually widened to include dozens of other computers linked on the Internet, as well as involving the military, the FBI and the CIA. Stoll's true story is written clearly and wittily; even if you don't know anything about computers, this book would stand on its own as an enthralling detective story. It will appeal to anyone who uses a computer, and to many who don't. (Kirkus UK)
