Matt Corbin is a down-and-out drifter and part-time cowboy. Heas called Hard Times, as he seems to have a dark cloud of bad luck hanging over him. Heas out of tobacco, coffee and down to his last dollar, as he heads for the gold strike town of Deadwood in the Dakota Territories of the year 1887. His horse pulls up lame, and it begins to rain. Heas about a mile away from shelter in the town of Lead. In a saloon there, heas told there might be a line riding job at the Rocking M ranch about four miles north of town. As he rides north, his horse dies and he has to walk to the ranch, where heas hired. There, he meets and falls for a girl with hair the color of fox fur with sunlight shining through it. From there on, his luck takes a turn for the better. However, riders from a rival ranch shoot and kill the girlas guardians. Will Matt and the girl manage to escape?
