    Diana Kennedy was born in Loughton, Essex, in the United Kingdom. She moved to Mexico in 1957 with her husband, the newspaper reporter Paul Kennedy. Her gastronomic interest in the country led her to study everything related to the culture and traditional Mexican cuisine. Besides being one of the most respected researchers and professors on this topic, she is also noted for her work in environmental protection. For more than thirty years she has lived in an ecological house in Zitacuaro, Michoacan. She is the author of "The Cuisines of Mexico, The Art of Mexican Cuisine, My Mexico: A Culinary Odyssey, Recipes From the Soul," and "A Taste of Oaxaca." Among the numerous acknowledgments she has received is the Order of the Gold Eagle (1981) and a special medal from the International Association of Kitchen Professionals (2003). In 2002 the British government appointed her as a member of the Imperial Order of Britain to expand cultural relations between Mexico and the United Kingdom.
