This book has been sitting on my TBR pile for about a year now. I read the first three original books at the start of 2010 and I loved them. But for some reason, it took me a while to get started on City of Fallen Angels. I think it was because I heard somewhere that this book is based entirely around Simon and honestly, I never was a huge fan of him. Until now. He wasn't one of my favourites in the series, I always found him annoying but he was so badass in this one! My opinion has definitely changed on him, thankfully. He doesn't bother me anymore. I actually really like him now. He was brave, strong, loyal, funny and an awesome friend to Clary.
The book wasn't all based on Simon. Mainly Simon and Clary told the story from separate POVs but sometimes we would get to hear from Isabelle, Alec, Jace and Magnus too, which was awesome. A lot of books I have read lately aren't only told from one person's perspective, I really used to hate that but I'm actually beginning to enjoy it. It's pretty cool seeing the world from different character's minds.
Cassandra Clare is a fabulous writer! She worded everything perfectly and you were never bored, not even for a second. As each chapter ended, there was a cliff-hanger, just making you want to continue reading. My eyes were glued to the pages from the very beginning, the book completely sucked me in. One thing I didn't like though was how long the chapters were. I think there's about thirty or forty pages in each, give or take. If I sit down, my mind set to just read one or two chapters, it's fine because usually they're not that long, but it did take a while to get through one, especially since it's a big book, unlike the first three. But apart from that, I really loved it.
The Mortal Instruments are my favourite covers of all time .Each one of them is stunning! I love, love, LOVE the cover of City of Fallen Angels. Clary and Jace look so badass and the orange light underneath them is so pretty. Then at the very bottom, it shows a city which continues all the way over to the back cover. It's stunning! Ugh, I love it.
This definitely was one of my favourite books in the series. It was amazing. The story held you captivated and you just wanted more and more. There was a huge cliff-hanger at the end so I'm really excited to read City of Lost Souls. I honestly wish I would have read this sooner. Kudos to Cassandra for this beautifully written book. And with that being said, it gets the incredible five-star rating!show more
