Short Description for City of BonesWhen fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder--much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing--not even a smear of...

  • Fantastic Fantasy5

Eilish Walsh Clary Fray is just a typical teenager; clashing with her mother, spending time with her best friend Simon and doing what she loves best- her art. That is, until a fateful encounter with an invisible world marks the start of a downward spiral which quickly changes her life to something far from ordinary.

Clary is swept up in the darkly glamorous world of the Shadowhunters (demon hunters), and finds herself intrigued by the self-assured, and very experienced demon killer, Jace Wayland. The sudden disappearance of her mother along with some hinted-at-secrets of a hidden past, lead Clary farther and farther into the dangerous (but exciting) realm of the unknown. With her best friend Simon unwittingly along for the ride, Clary uncovers her secret past, an uncomfortable present and a future full of endless possibilities.

From the very first page of City Of Bones I couldn't put it down. Clary's world is one where I would love to spend some time (as will any other fan of urban fantasy)! Clare's work of genius is filled with fantastic characters, most worthy of mention being the arrogantly endearing Jace Wayland (who is dangerous, charming and infuriating all at the same time), vicious villains and supernatural creatures aplenty. Her concept is a breath of fresh air in the over-crowded genre and one which I'm glad to have discovered. She spins a thrilling plot filled with shocking twists and just enough humour to leave you wanting more and more after the last page has been turned.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast paced and exciting paranormal story with eccentric and addictive characters. A fantastic example of everything that is great about the fantasy/YA genre. I for one can't wait to get my hands on the next in the Immortal Instruments series. A thoroughly enchanting read that I know I will be enjoying again and again for years to come.

    RECOMMEND? Yes

  • Amazing!!!4

Courtney oh my god. I absolutely loved this book and indeed the series.

I feel that the way that Cassandra writes is very captivating and addicting. The story line keeps you on the edge of your seat hanging on every word that is written in between the covers of The City Of Bones.

I found that i really wanted to get to the end of each book, just so I could had all of these different pieces of information to the large puzzle that is The Mortal Instruments; especially in the first three books as the SPOILER!!! war is built up between Valentine and the other shadowhunters.

The characters are very well developed. They are very complex 'people'. I fell in love with Jace, Simon, Alex, Magnus, Isabelle, Luke and quite simply most of the characters. But of course, as with every book you encounter, you will most probably find that you will detest at least one character. In this case I found that I didn't fall in love with Clary as mush as i would have liked and I think that is because of some of her actions to do with her relationships with the people around her. I didn't entirely dislike Clary but she hasn't made her way into my heart the way that characters like Magnus, Alex, Simon and Jace have. I like this dislike for Clary though, i feel that it makes the book that much more real.

The plot is well developed and the story is told with nice rhythm and timing, not too much is given away at once.

I have come across one person who absolutely detests the book; my boyfriend. He read half of it and tossed it aside carelessly. He isn't much of a reader though and I doubt that there are many fictional books in this world that he would find a worthwhile read. He isn't very patient.

Besides this, I think that City of Bones and the following books and prequel The Infernal Devices are a breath of fresh air to the fantasy novel world. The world I shadowhunters is a place that I could easily live in and I want the series to last forever. A fantastic place I can slip away to. the series will live forever on my favorite books list along with books by J.K Rowling, Stephanie Meyer, James Patterson, Suzanne Collins and Maggie Stiefvater. I give great thanks to Cassandra Clare for allowing us the great pleasure and privilege to take a step into her imagination.

    Courtney xoxo

Please give my work in progress "The Navy Case" a look at. It on Wattpad my account name is 'bookaholic1'. It still needs editing and chapters still need to be written but please leave comments and constructive criticism! thanks by Courtney

  • Fayth @ Starcrossed2

Starcrossed This book was super, super hyped up. Like, totally. So of course, like all major hyped up books, I had to see what all the fuss was about. And I have to ask... What IS the fuss all about?

The warning signs came early within the book, when the classic cliche of unrequited love between a guy and girl was introduced between protagonist Clary Fray and her best friend Simon. Then, of course, mega hottie Jace Wayland- Shadowhunter extraordinaire- comes into the picture when Clary stumbles upon a demon slaying at a nightclub. Jace is arrogant, charming, hot, you name it. He doesn't take crud from anybody. Clary finds out she's a part of Jace's world after her mother is kidnapped. Kidnapped after her and Clary got into an argument. Angst. It is also discovered that there is a block in Clary's mind, which adds suspense to the otherwise boring story. After this, the book is, admittedly, a page turner to find out what happens next. Will Clary get her memory back? Will she ever find her mother, who seems to be in the hands of the super evil Shadowhunter gone bad, Valentine?

The book had a great story. I'm a sucker for anything fantasy, after all, and I am a closet appreciator of romances. However, the author seemed to be targeting a younger audience, and made the characters just passive aggressive enough for anyone going through puberty to enjoy. And the ending, well, we'll just leave it at those two words: the ending. Because I can't find words suitable enough to express my disappointment.

Needless to say, I probably won't be finishing the series. But who knows, maybe I will, just for the sake of curiosity. by Starcrossed

  • I rather eat my own vomit that read this series ever again1

Hannah This was the most terrible series I have ever read. I can't believe this ever got published. Not only is the author, Cassandra Clare, a plagiarizer, she is just a plain terrible writer. It makes me blood boil every time I see a book of hers and it takes all my strength not to rip it into shreds. I hope C.C never writes anymore books after this and the Clockwork Angel series, I wouldn't inflit the pain of her books on my worst enemy. by Hannah

During the first half of the book, around 250 pages or so, I just wasn't feeling it. I was enjoying it, I liked the characters. The world was intriguing and I was interested, but it was taking me a couple days just to get through that first half. I wasn't completely sucked into the story and engrossed. That all changed with the second half of the book. by Reading Angel

TeensReadToo Clary Fray thinks she's a fairly ordinary fifteen-year-old girl--until the world as she knows it falls apart, all starting the night she and her best friend, Simon, visit the Pandemonium Club. Sure, in a city the size of New York, a lot of weird things happen; Clary didn't expect to witness one of the weirdest.

What she sees that night is a murder, a murder committed by tattoo-covered teenagers no one else can see--a murder with no body left behind. That's certainly a sign that Clary's life is about to get a little farther away from normal, and it certainly does so.

Clary's life is falling to pieces. Her mother goes missing. Clary is attacked by a creature - a demon. She's seeing things no one else can--including the Shadowhunters, demon hunters whose world is hidden within Clary's own. She meets three young Shadowhunters - Jace, Alec, and Isabelle - and is quickly sucked into their world, searching for her mother, trying to protect herself, trying to sort out what's real, what's true, and what's not. It is, obviously, a bit much for anyone to handle, but Clary's got no choice. Along the way, she's discovering her past, herself, and just who the Shadowhunters really are.

This debut novel from a brilliant, smart new voice in young adult literature is a marvelous adventure, full of fantastic twists and turns just when they're least expected. The complexity of the story, the threads from the past and present intertwined, is reminiscent of the Harry Potter series--and that's high praise!

The writing of this magical story is excellent, and I was very impressed with the wonderfully lifelike characters and amazing magical world hidden within our own. I was reminded of Holly Black's mastery of the urban fantasy genre. The captivating story told by the very talented Cassandra Clare in CITY OF BONES is surely the start of a brilliant series--I can't wait for the next MORTAL INSTRUMENTS book. This paranormal fantasy is truly unforgettable.

  • Review For the whole series!5

splashofourworlds.blogspot.com Since i'm impatiently waiting for Clockwork Angel to arrive (finally was dispatched yesterday) i decided to do a sum-up review at Cassandra's Clare The Mortal Instruments series (sequel of the Infernal Devices which include Clockwork Angel). I will try not to spoil more than the summaries have already done. Actually i will not spoil at all. Read it :)

First of all, on Clare's writing style. What i can say...i love it. After Harry Potter i couldn't believe i could find a same-style world story to enjoy. Most of them were copying it or they were too predictable for me. And then it showed up! City Of Bones was translated in Greek by Platypus Publications. First i was amazed by the cover (i found really important a book has a good and attractive cover) and then i read the summery. I bought and finished it in less than 24 hours. Same came with the rest two books which i purchased in English. I have to admit that i love Clare's writing more than Rowling's. I do love HP but sorry guys TMI topped it for me(HP fans don't kill me). Clare write in a simple way which make you understand perfectly the situation and the places. It's really easy to become one with the book and live in her world. Also i like her humor much more and how she puts her characters in. Finally a book which hasn't a miserable main character or something like that. They all know why they are there and they are accepting what's is going on in a normal way. According to their personalities of course.

Now on the stories and the characters what i can say? Claire is female character which i admire! Seriously! Most girl characters are too cowardly. I can read about her again and again. She is normal! Same goes for Isabelle. Well, actually sometimes you will hate her and sometimes you will love her. I can't get my feeling straight about her. On the boys, well i have a serious problem. I can't decide which one i like. Jase, Alec,Saimon, Magnus even Luke. Thanks miss Clare for making my life difficult. You will find boys: your best friend, your dream, the dream that you don't admit to say aloud or even the dream that you want but afraid of. Plus, i think boys will love them too. They are not annoying or too "gay". As you have already noticed i can't pick my fav character. That's ok i guess. Good to like every one in a book. Even the villain.
The story goes fast and slow. The action scenes are fast and your heart pounding like crazy and when it's need to be slower or more analyzed then that's how it is. The part that really amazed me was the action scenes. I couldn't believe a woman can write such good scenes like a guy. They are at the same level like the love scenes or the normal life scenes. Wow!

There is romance, sadness, sympathy, fun, secrets...You will want to beat characters, kill them, hug them. You will want to be in their position and live with them. To help them. You will want to read more. To put it simply..go buy it!;) For me it's a must. by splashofourworlds.blogspot.com

  • Jace..be still my heart ( www.novelsontherun.blogspot.com )5

Michelle Auricht I had the best time reading this book. Simply a wonderful read. Action, smexual tension...Oh My LORDY!!!.this book has everything and then some.

Cassandra Clare is the rare author who has that unbelievable creative mind that knows how to really let the reader 'see' her books. I had to slow my reading down to savour the way she describes scenes, characters etc. I absolutely adore her characters in The Mortal Instruments series.

Jace: the cocky, sarcastic, tough, uber smexi Shadow Hunter.

Clary:, the fiesty , brave female lead with a past.

    Simon: mundane, funny/witty , Clary's bff/ wanna be boyfriend.

The other characters I will say no more about as too much to give away.

Cassandra mixes worlds beautifully..leaves no stone unturned in her endeavour to give us the reader a most magical/creative/funny rather smexi read.

I can not recommend this book enough!!! I was so glad that I got to read all three books one after the other as Jace and Clary's sexual tension was simply a great read. Shadow Hunters, Down Worlders, Fey, Demons, Vampires etc...this book has it all. Cassandra's imagination is truly inspiring to read.

    FAVE QUOTES:

"Clary remembered how it had felt to be lifted up by those hands, his arms holding her up and the stars hurtling down around her head like a rain of silver tinsel."

Piano keys jangled as he got to his feet. Our own Sleeping Beauty."Who finally kissed you awake?"

    "I see, " Clary said.
There must have been something in her voice, because he turned to look at her. her hand cracked across his face, a slap that rocked him back on his heels. He put his hand to his cheek, more in surprise than pain. " What the hell was that for?"

"The other ten percent , "she said, and they rode the rest of the way down to the street in silence.

"Yes well," Jace said, with a supercilious look, I'm not like other guys...."

" I figured all your classes were stuff like Slaughter 101 and Beheading for Beginners."

"Get the hell off me, you pretentious asshole," the intruder snarled, shoving at Jace.

"Good idea," said Jace. "I shall be Baron Hotschaft Von Hugenstein."

"At least he has you," said Clary awkwardly, and she thought for a moment of Jace, who thought of love as something that broke you into pieces.

"I wouldn't feel too sorry for him," Jace said. "That's probably the closest he's ever gotten to second base." by Michelle Auricht
