Michael John Burton is associate professor of political science at Ohio University, Athens, OH. He worked in the White House office of Vice President Al Gore (1993-98) as special assistant to the chief of staff and assistant political director. With Daniel M. Shea, Burton coauthored Praeger's Campaign Craft: The Strategies, Tactics, and Art of Political Campaign Management and Campaign Mode: Strategic Vision in Congressional Elections. Daniel M. Shea is professor of political science and director of the Center for Political Participation at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. He has worked as a political strategist in New York and has written widely on campaign strategy and political parties. Shea is the author or editor of 14 books, including New Party Politics: From Hamilton and Jefferson to the Information Age and Contemplating the People's Branch: Legislative Dynamics in the Twenty-First Century.
