The year is 1883. The stark Icelandic winter landscape is the backdrop. We follow the priest, Skugga-Baldur, on his hunt for the enigmatic blue fox. We're then transported to the world of the naturalist Friethrik B. Friethriksson and his charge, Abba, who suffers from Down's syndrome, and who came to his rescue when he was on the verge of disaster. Then to a shipwreck off the Icelandic coast in the spring of 1868. The fates of Friethrik, Abba and Baldur are intrinsically bound and unravelled in this spellbinding book that is part thriller, part fairy tale.

Sjon was born in Reykjavik in 1962. His first collection of poetry was published when he was sixteen. He has since gone on to publish many poetry collections, novels, plays and books for children. He has received numerous literary awards, and was nominated for an Academy Award for the music for Dancer In The Dark, directed by Lars von Trier.

'Dancer in the dark' was the shocking revelation of Björk in the field of acting. She was accompanied by the great Catherine Deneuve, whose beauty could not eclipse the flashes of the Icelandic star.
Lars von Trier wanted that the songs' lyrics for this film were written by Sjón, Björk's compatriot author who already stood out in the forefront of Nordic letters.
Yesterday I spent my free time reading a novel by Sjón -his full name is Sigurjón Birgir Sigurðsson-, and he took me to the glaciers ice of Iceland. And I was happy, wrapped up in its warmth.
Warmth and high quality of 'The blue fox', a brief gem that takes me to experience a hunted hunters story full of sensitivity, and also poetry that reveals its conciseness and, arguably, necessary frugality.
Four intertwined chapters end up revealing a mystery, using mythological and folklore elements of that country to finish to do justice and bring the evil in his place. The mid-nineteenth century Iceland was, in its essential isolation, the place where everything, good and bad, came from the sea.
'When I need something epic and lyrical I call upon Sjon.' Bjork'Weaves themes from Icelandic sagas, and romantic narrative art into a fascinating story in which present day ethical questions stand out.' The Nordic Council
