Reviews for Blood Rite
Disappointed TAM fan - neither the storyline or the erotica lived up to my expectations
I think my review title says it all really. I'm disappointed because Trista Ann Michaels is one of my favourite authors and although I'm not usually into books or tv programmes about magic, vampires, shapeshifters and so on I thought I would give this a go because the blurb sounded quite good and I read part of the first chapter on her website and thought it would be an enjoyable read.
Don't get me wrong, I did find the first half of the book quite gripping but then somehow the story really seemed to lose momentum and it became more of a chore than a pleasure to read. I noticed inconsistencies as the story went on. One minute Julian and his son Marcus hate each other for some daft reason which is explained at the beginning and then throughout the whole book there is no mention of this or evidence of any bitterness between them at all. Also, I didn't think the relationship between the main characters was developed enough to make it somehow seem believable or like their feelings for each other at least added up which kind of bugged me as I think I would have enjoyed it more maybe if that had been the case. I'm a sucker for a good romance / love story as well as the hot stuff. I just didn't really feel the connection or emotion between the main characters for it to work for me personally.
I couldn't wait to get to the end - not because it was good or because I was gripped but because I just wanted to get the end so I could move onto the next. There was so much promise in the beginning and then it just fell flat and I thought the ending was very weak.
I accept that paranormal romance probably just isn't my thing and maybe that was part of the problem but I also thought there would be a lot more sexy scenes, like there are in her other books. There are some sexy bits yes, and two of them were pretty good but again, the rest of it was pretty tame and disappointing. As the other reviewer mentions there is a little M/M action and for me (again) it just didn't work.
After this I am not sure whether I will be so quick to buy her books in the future, certainly not the paranormal ones anyway but you live and learn by Misque
