At eighteen, Kate Worthington knows she should be getting serious about marriage, but her restless heart won't let her settle down. To escape her mother's meddlesome influence, she dreams of traveling with her spinster aunt to exotic India. But when the opportunity arises, Kate finds herself making a bargain with her mother: she will be allowed to go only if she spends a season at the family's wealthy estate, Blackmoore, where she must secure and reject three marriage proposals. Enlisting the help of her dearest childhood friend, Henry Delafield, Kate sets out to collect her proposals so she can be on her way. But Henry's decision to help threatens to destroy both of their dreams in ways they could never imagine. Set in Northern England in 1820, Blackmoore is a regency romance that tells the story of a young woman struggling to learn how to listen to her heart. With hints of Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters, "Blackmoore" is a page-turning tale of romance, intrigue, and devotion.

Julianne Donaldson is the bestselling author of "Edenbrooke" and "Blackmoore." Her degree in English has fueled her desire to write. She and her husband live in Salt Lake City, Utah, with their four children, but she takes every opportunity she can to travel the English countryside.

If you follow my reviews regularly, you will know my penchant for historical fiction. Add romance, an English (Regency setting), and you have the ingredients for a book that may truly resonate with me. All too often, however, these books are a dime a dozen. They have very little (if any) humor, bedroom scenes (some nearly erotic in nature), and some disruptive profanity. The female protagonist is often too good to be true or completely overbearing. And what can you expect from her love interest but arrogance and plenty of experience within the boudoir.
You may wonder at my reasoning for listing these problematic elements, and you may marvel even further when it comes to relating these to Julianne Donaldson's book. It's very simple--her book contains not one of these pitfalls. In fact, if a romance book can be perfect, this is certainly it! There are no bedroom scenes and absolutely no profanity. Henry and Kate have a definite chemistry, and the scenes between them are witty and highly emotional at times. The supporting cast and descriptions are expertly portrayed, and there are several times where the readers are somewhat left in the dark until the next flashback (a delightful literary device). Although the conclusion is ultimately not in question, the journey is quite a ride. I believe that readers will be charmed by the story and tingling from the depth of feeling! This is pure heaven, and I can recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, clean romance.
I also commend the author for her delightful sense of humor. All too often, today's books don't include good humor. I applaud the author for her tasteful, laugh-out-loud dialogue and happenings. You may wish to curl up with this book by yourself so that no one is disturbed by your sudden, explosive outburst. I had to be cognizant of that fact when I was reading, and thankfully no one was disturbed by my reactions.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was no financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

ROMANCE AT IT BEST!
SO. SO. SO. GOOD!
And I could go on and on about this breath-taking book, for it truly is a definite must-read for anyone who loves a good love story like I do.

Read this fabulous book to find the answers found in this one woman's secretly locked heart...you will be so happy you did!
"Admirers of Austen, Gaskell, and the Bronte sisters will enjoy this light tale of romance set in the early nineteenth century...Donaldson can turn a phrase... "Blackmoore" is light and easy to read, perfect for a day at the beach or over tea and crumpets served in the best china."--"ForeWord Reviews"
