Reviews for Bel Canto
Amazing.
As an 18 year old who lives in the fictional world of heart pounding romance novels Bel Canto was quite the change. However cheesy romance novels can only go so far and wanted to read something that was new and different. Let me start first by saying this novel is brilliant. At times, I found it slow and it wasn't one of those books that I couldn't put down but it was still fantastic nonetheless. Once I immersed myself in the story I really began to enjoy it and found myself thinking about it long after I had finished reading. The use of opera to interweave all the characters was surprisingly well done and although I thought that it would be a drawback I actually really enjoyed that aspect of the story. Her ability to make you connect and sympathise with many of the characters, whether they were terrorist or hostage was amazing and made it that much more enthralling and emotional to read -especially when it gets to the end. Ann Patchett's writing is truly impeccable and I recommend her to anyone looking for a great book. Overall, although it was not my style of novel I am so happy I gave it a chance- it has definitely earned a permanent spot on my book shelf. by Melissa
