Darcey Bussell was born in London and studied at the Royal Ballet School. In 1986 she won the Prix de Lausanne. She moved to The Royal Ballet in 1988, and became a Principal in 1989. She has appeared with New York City Ballet, Kirov Ballet, Australian Ballet and Paris Opera Ballet. She received the 1990 Evening Standard Ballet Award and was awarded an OBE in 1995.

This book is almost an illustrated dictionary: full of pictures, it shows the basics of ballet and carries the information any ballet lover should get to know when starting with this graceful art form. It should please children because of its simple, clear language and tons of pretty images, as well as adults in love with the theme.
