DescriptionFate isn't something to mess with and now, neither is Alex. Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods-and Alex herself-to bring her back. The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex's power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex's connection to Seth isn't the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole an Apollyon can't be killed theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries. Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer or she might become the God Killer herself."

Reviews for Apollyon
Favourite Quote: "That's the problem. With arrogance comes great blindness."
After the third book in this series "Deity" I couldn't wait to read this book! Sadly though I was disappointed in this book was give it a 3/5 stars!
The main problem for me was the plot. First of all I didn't find it very action-filled until the end of the the book and I need a book with action every few chapters to keep me entertained! Most of the book was about giving the reader loads of information and sometimes I felt it was hard to keep up with it all! There were also twists that I guessed early on and that takes a bit of goodness out the story! Overall the plot was okay, the best part was the ending which was very good in my opinion!
The characters were another reason I took a star off! I really liked Alex in the beginning, she was he usual fiesty self but somewhere near the middle she lost her spark and become such a downer! Of course I could understand why she was upset but I felt it dragged on. Then I disagreed with a few of the decisions she made, so I felt a little disconnected with her for most of this book! Aiden was amazing as usual, no compliments there! Seth was mostly absent in this novel and I'm sure not sure if that was a bad or good thing for the plot! As for all the side characters, I feel like they should be more of them in the book! I love most of them and I feel like we don't get to see much of them and that is a waste!
Overall this book was okay, it is probably my least favourite of the series so far but I still can't wait to read the next one! by Moodyno1
Not the best Covenant book but still pretty freaking great
I love this series. But then again is there anything by Jennifer L. Armentrout that I don't love? Doubtful! I saw a lot of awesome commentary of Apollyon, all five star reviews lined up a row. Also a lot of people told me how totally awesome it was. I was wondering how it could be more awesome than the previous book that was so full of awesome sauce, so I started this one as soon as I received it. It took me a little longer than usual to finish but now I am almost in a catatonic state because of that freaking ending. A classic JLA ending!
I must be crazy for saying this, but I kind of really liked Alex when she was connected to Seth and was all "Evil Alex". Seriously, she was so much fun. Only the bit where she was so devoted to Seth and was all going, "my Seth" freaked me out a bit. But anyways, that didn't last long at least. Still... it was entertaining to read about. When she got "unconnected" from Seth and broke down, I was glad she let her emotions out and that Aiden was there for her. It's like a normal person would react. I liked how JLA wrote it. I was almost crying with Alex.
And Alex, she's like uber Alex now with her Apollyon powers. She's a force to be reckoned with, people! That's why I like her so much. She's snarky and sarcastic but she packjs some serious power too. And Aiden. Awww. How adorable is he? I liked him very much in this book which is a huge different to what I thought of him in the first book. When he's with Alex he seems much more happy and loose. Love it!
But I gotta say, after that things slowed down quite a bit. It was all going a little too slow for my liking. And that's also the reason, I think, that it took me longer than normal to finish. It wasn't until the last, say, 80 pages that things got really exciting again for me, personally. I also had a hard time rating this book because I couldn't decide whether to give it 3 or 4 stars. I decided on 4 because of the last few events in the book that were actually pretty darn good. Shocking but good.
One of my favorite things in this book were the side-characters. I mean Alex and Aiden were awesome and cute together like always but I feel the other characters stepped up a bit more than usual. Not sure if it's just me or if that was also so for other people but that's how I felt. I just love the dynamic of those 9 people all huddled together in the cabin and then when they went on the road together; Love 'em!
And as always some kick-ass god action! We see gods we a already know like Apollo (much much much love!) and the ever charming dionysus (ain't he something...) but also some gods we hadn't encountered yet. Persephone being one of them. Sorry for the spoiler but I really liked her. We also saw some more of a certain best friend in the underworld. He and Persephone were kinda hilarious. And then there's the god who is responsible for Seth. Jesus christ, he scared me a bit. Which brings us to Seth. I am so confused as to how I should feel about him. Sure, he creeps me out a little bit with the way he's addicted to the aether power and all that crap but, gods, I missed him. He wasn't in the book a lot. Only in Alex's mind really. I really hope he's going to kick a certain god's ass for hurting Alex. If he doesn't, I might jump in the book myself to kill him. No need for Alex do do it anymore. Seriously.
So, yeah, that ending... WOWZA! The last sentence, I swear it freaks me out so much. I am so scared for what's to come. Anything could happen at this point. Anyone could die...
Overall, Apollyon by Jennifer L. Armentrout wasn't the best book in the Covenant series but it absolutely didn't lack in the action department. Throw a few unexpected twists and turns + some heartbreaking, emotional moments and you've got a pretty great 4 star read.
I am so excited for the final book, Sentinel. It's going to be the best book so far, I just know it will be. Let the countdown begin... by Stephanie Verhaegen
You'll totally LOVE this one!
There are many reasons why I love Apollyon. One of them is that it's my first ARC form Spencer Hill Press, and it's written by Jen, and it's all about Aiden, and Deity left me hanging 2 miles up in the air so I NEEDED it desperately, and I could go on like this forever.
But the most magnificent thing about Apollyon is the story itself. Believe me, it's EPIC!
The action takes off right from the point where Elixir left. There were a lot of moments that broke my heart in the first part of the book, most of them had something - in fact, ALL - to do with Aiden. But he's so strong, so devoted to his cause! All that he's going through will only make you love him more. I can't tell you any more about him without spoiling something, so I'll just shut up and move on... but not without showing you some quotes first, what did ya think?
"To love is not weak. Love is the strongest thing there is."
Aiden shuddered, and then clasped my cheeks. His silver eyes searched mine. They were covered in a fine sheen - like tears, but Aiden never cried. "Alex... oh, gods, Alex, are you here?"
I bit down my lip and my legs started trembling. But he was there. Like always, holding me up when I couldn't stand and letting me go when he knew I needed him to. He was more than just a shelter. Aiden was my other half, my equal. And he needed no weird Apollyon connection.
Alex has grown up a lot. She's definitely stronger and more mature. She has to make some difficult decisions and she'll surprise you by choosing right - this time. She also goes through very intense, insanely hard moments that will give you nightmares for quite a while. But you don't have to worry that you'll miss her old self or her smartass comments. They're all there, and that's another reason why I love The Covenant Series so much.
No matter how convoluted my life got, one thing remained consistent- my hair looked like a baby opossum had taken refuge in it, invited some friends over, and thrown a party.
And then again, when Thanatos had hit me with the god bolt, he had been there like a creepy stalker with a one-way ticket to my brain.
Seth is there too, somewhere... Not too close, not too far, exactly how I like it. Well... I might have missed the old Seth just a little bit. He had a way of adding a bit of spice even to the most boring scene, But since Apollyon doesn't have ANY boring scenes, this isn't much of an issue.
"Aiden complimented me; he was the yin to my yang, the "now, now" to my smartass. But Seth and I were too much alike, and in a way, we really were the same person. Together for too long, we probably would murder each other."
I've always admired the way Jen creates the world of her stories, because all of her characters get to play their part, no one's wasted. I loved the way they played their part in Apollyon and I was truly sad when I had to say goodbye to some of them. But let's look at the bright side! I got to meet some of the old characters that I wouldn't have thought to see again.
Deacon is one of my favorites because of his way of making a joke out of everything and his brotherly love for Aiden.
"Whatever you do, don't break my brother's heart. You are his world. And if you leave it, it will destroy him."
Seriously, if you liked the first three books, you'll totally LOVE this one! It has more action, crazy hot fighting scenes - and some other scenes - more gods (I totally wanted to hit Apollo with a god bolt a few times. Can gods be stricken by god bolts too?), Greek legends and friendship. A perfect read!
"Death could stop a lot of things, but it could never cut the bond of friendship."
Happy reading! by Cristina Buzoianu
review from Blkosiner's Book Blog
As usual, Jennifer does NOT disappoint!
It was so hard in the beginning when Alex was connect to Seth, and calling him "my Seth." She was so obviously not herself and that is not what I want for any person. I think that it is very important to be yourself and not change for anyone, especially a guy. I know that it was all the bond and supernatural forces, but it was still hard to read. I knew that it was coming but it was still hard to deal with.
You could also so clearly see the love of Aidan for Alex in what he had to do to keep her safe. Being by her side day by day and watching her and listening her talk about Seth like he was the best thing since sliced bread. (You can get all of this from last book or the first chapter, so not really a spoiler.)
But on to happier things, I love reading about them. Their connection is so pure, hot and epic. I want for Aiden to look at me like that, but I guess I will settle for him looking at Alex that way.
The plot twists never fail to get me. I don't know how Jennifer can keep surprising me, but she does. Her pacing is breakneck, and she always ends the stories in a way that leave me wanting to stalk her to find out what happens next. Though, the ending of this one is not quite as evil as previous stories. AND--We get the answer to some questions but then more just pop right up. I love reading this series, and will be so sad when it is over and I can no longer be in the head of Alex, and drool over Aidan.
Needless to say, I was so glad when Alex was back to herself. She has matured so much but it didn't take away from who she is fundamentally, it just grows her and makes her better. She still kicks butt, still questions things not just accepting how things are, and she still loves those around her so fiercely.
I feel so sorry for Seth and am so mad at him all at the same time. I understand that the power is seductive, but I just wish for the banter and the guy that I got to know in the previous books.
Not only is the inside of the story every flavor of amazing, the covers always make me so happy. I could stare at them, and I am proud to have them on my bookshelf.
I cannot recommend this series enough, if you haven't yet, get on the band wagon, it is a good one to be on.
Bottom Line: Amazing series, author and can't recommend it enough. by Brandi Kosiner (Brandi Breathes Books)
