Beautifully written, it's been a few months now since I've read this novel and it is still in my mind. I think unconsciously I've incorporated what I have read into my own life.

A great read. A real page-turner. A good gift for just about anyone.

It's a simple allegorical tale about finding your path and it does so in a very entertaining manner.

Talk about punching above your weight, for should a little book it packs a huge punch. It is a very simple story but there is something so profound about the young shepherd who follows his dream. I can definitely see myself reading this book many more times over many more years to come.
Also for such a simple story it speaks on so many levels. I bet many different people can read this book and they would all take something different away from reading it.
The only bad thing I can say about it, was it was too short. I read this book in one sitting, and by the end of it I still wanted more. But in saying that maybe that will be one of the reasons I'll read it many more times.....

Santiago is a young Spanish shepherd who keeps having a recurring dream of finding treasure near the pyramids of Egypt. What starts as a half hearted journey through the desert turns into the adventure of a lifetime for young Santiago as he comes across different people from different walks of life. All of them have a unique story to tell and their own points of view on how they are supposed to go about their life and what they should do about their dreams and commitments. The voyage eventually leads Santiago to The Alchemist who helps the boy towards his goal.
What makes the Alchemist unique is the absolute simplicity and straightforwardness with which it conveys its message. The subject of the book is solely to explore the realities and the practicalities of following your dreams.
