Reviews for In the Forests of the Night
A worthy sequel to Tyger Tyger!
Teagan and her family made it safely out of Mag Mell, but things aren't over. Not by a long shot.
Fear Doirich is determined to get Aiden, and his warriors are invading Teagan's world faster than ever. And it's not just her family and friends that are being targeted anymore - one of Fear Doirich's goons infected Teagan with a virus engineered to destroy everything human about her from the inside out. As time races on and Teagan feels herself losing her grip on her humanity, she and Finn must travel back into the depths of Mag Mell and destroy Fear Doirich once and for all.
I enjoyed this novel immensely. Kersten Hamilton set the bar high with her last novel (book one in the goblin wars trilogy) and her second novel did not disappoint in the slightest.
The second installment picks up right where the last one left off (which is crucial in this book). Teagan and her mis-matched new family are all attempting to find some semblance of normality while they plan for Fear Doirich's next attack, but things are happening faster than anyone had ever planned for. Soon goblins are following Teagan and Finn around everywhere, and with nothing to do but fight back, the pair are more than a little overwhelmed. I loved the way the author really made you feel Teagan's frustration with the situation and the sense of helplessness she had when she didn't know what to do.
The plot, as usual, was awesome. I really liked the character development we saw in Thomas, Finn, and Teagan - it really added to the story and changed my perspective on a few things. And for those die-hard Finn fangirls: he's still just as dreamy in this installment. ;)
If you haven't already checked out this amazing, kick-ass series, I definitely recommend you pick up Tyger Tyger (and a copy of In the Forests of the Night while you're at it, because you'll be aching to read it the minute you finish). Check it out if you're looking for something new in the paranormal YA genre! by StephanieGobblin' it up like a story-hungry goblin
Tyger, Tyger was an unexpected delight, and it should come as no surprise that Kersten Hamilton continues the tradition with its sequel In The Forests Of The Night. This series rolls around in all the best ingredients to make an unforgettable read - charming, exciting, heart-breaking, game-changing, and all sorts of fun - I will be quite sad when this all ends because it will be like saying goodbye to a group of good friends.
THE GOOD BITS
{Characters} Teagan may be the star player, but she is more than willing to share the spotlight with her family and friends. Kersten Hamilton has developed such a colorful cast of characters who either have stories to tell or provide the comic relief in an otherwise dark book. More to the point, these characters felt so real that I can easily imagine their family dinner conversations and sense how strong their bond to each other was. I loved seeing all the old characters again and meeting the new ones who had enough charm to stand out on their own. It might sound strange, but these characters felt so much like family that I could not help but to love them like my own!
{Teagan + Finn} These two are just too darn cute that I am glad that they don't ever melt into a sickening gob of love. Instead, they seem perfectly able to function without the other - and they are both stubborn enough to not listen to each other's protest of wanting to go into Mag Mell alone. I love every moment they teased each other because it demonstrates how sure-footed their relationship is. I don't think anyone can break them apart, especially after this book where everyone - including Teagan herself - questions their love.
THE BAD BITS
{Waiting for Book 3 now!} Enough said.
THE OVERALL
In The Forests Of The Night definitely showcases Kersten Hamilton's storytelling abilities. Not only does the story breathes to life a dark and dangerous mythology, it also provides a few moments of charm and comedy that make these characters unforgettable and all too lovable! by theEPICrat
